Elana Geddis brings 25 years of experience to the resolution of her clients’ problems. Her unique background means she is equally comfortable dealing with international or New Zealand domestic law. She relishes difficult problems and enjoys assisting clients to navigate new or complex issues.

Areas of Practice


Advice

Elana specialises in solving complex problems and prides herself on delivering high-quality advice to her clients.  She is regularly instructed to assist clients in and outside New Zealand on a wide range of public and international law issues. Elana particularly enjoys acting on non-contentious matters and frequently provides legal, policy and strategic advice outside of a litigation context. 


Advocacy

Elana is an experienced advocate and represents her clients interests in a range of fora. She has appeared as counsel in the International Court of Justice, the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea and an UNCLOS Annex VII Tribunal as well as the New Zealand Supreme Court. She has also both assisted, and represented individuals in relation to, a number of politically sensitive inquiries in New Zealand and overseas.


Arbitration

Elana is a nominated arbitrator, mediator and conciliator under the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, the Convention on the Conservation and Management of High Seas Fishery Resources in the South Pacific and the Environmental Protocol to the Antarctic Treaty.
